Rumors of my death have been exaggerated, but not by much.
I woke up this morning feeling like absolute crap, so I'm out sick today. It's one thing when you wake up and your stomach hurts or you have a headache or something that might be completely internal to you...try to work through it, see if it's just a passing thing. When you mom is sick over the weekend and you wake up sore, disoriented, coughing and with a headache...well, you're an idiot if you don't think you're sick. Granted, I *am* an idiot, but not that big of one. Rather than make everyone else at work sick (physically), I'll just rest up and then maybe everything will be A-OK...maybe.
The Eagles are in the playoffs for the 4th time in a row. First team in the NFL to clinch such a berth (ok...so it's because the other teams that did it played late games). Now, some of you may have noticed that I'm fairly wrapped up with the Eagles...it's one of the few things I get really moody about. I do have to say though that Donovan McNabb is probably one of the best people to come through the league in a long time. He is what's right with professional sports. He's not cocky, he doesn't make excuses, he doesn't lash out at a media that unfairly lashes out at him (both Rush Limbaugh and the Philly press). He goes out on the field, and does his job. He has a contract for effectively as long as he wants to play football, and he still goes out there week in and week out to play his guts out, injuries or not (last year, played for 3 quarters on a broken foot...the same injury that has sidelined one Michael Vick since the preseason up till last week). A lot of players would take it easy...especially when the chips are down. Not Donovan, and the comments he made about the Cowboys yesterday were a classic example.
The Cowboys, who beat the Eagles in Week 6 (the last time Philadelphia lost a game, I will add), were mad that Donovan said that they were not that good of a team...that the Eagles had played poorly and still had a chance to win that game and that everyone knew that the road through the NFC to the Super Bowl still went squarely through Philadelphia. Now, that's a bold statment by the worst-ranked passer in the league (at that point) and a 2-3 team. Of course, the Cowboys were using that statement as fuel to go out and try to sweep the Eagles and tie up in the race for the NFC East (which would have been huge for them). After the 36-10 trouncing the Cowboys received, McNabb had this to say: "If a comment that was made two and a half months ago needs to motivate you to play the game, you shouldn't be playing it." How spot on is that? He draws his motivation from the fact that he gets to go out and play a game for a living...that's his job and he views it as such. How many atheletes out there today are essentially spoiled brats who whine and complain about doing the basic things that their job requires? That's why Philadelphia has a real chance this year...because they have someone who *gets it* leading them. No crybabies, no me-firsts (they have three running backs...and Duce Staley knows he probably won't be in Philly next year...still goes out and scores touchdowns), no blaming other people for their own mistakes...go out, do your job, and earn the money that these fans are paying you. That's why the Eagles are the best team and why I support them so much.
Not to end the McNabb lovefest, but I feel really crappy now and want to go back to bed...there will be more later, probably. Oh, check out the stats page SpaceWolf and DoomEagle have been busy bees.

And I'll save my "BAH EAGLES!" comments for another time, and only suggest you pull that Eagles blanket around you -- it won't make you get better faster, but it is warm.
